CARPI BALSAMICA 2009

Since June 2005, the Communal Vinegar rooms have been located in the loft of the Palazzo Comunale (Council Building), well ventilated, warm in summer and cold in winter, the ideal conditions for making balsamic vinegar.
Inside the casks making up the three batteries of different ages, precious Modena Balsamic Vinegar matures.
The Carpi master vinegar makers of the Consortium, with love and skill, ensure the vinegar ages slowly, turning it into a precious product and thus confirming the modernity of centuries-old traditions.
And we, for the fifth time, wish to celebrate it with a full week of gastronomic, literary, technical and convivial events centred on just one theme – His Majesty Traditional Balsamic Vinegar..of Carpi

CARPI BALSAMICA
AT PALAZZO SCACCHETTI

The communal Vinegar rooms, where precious Traditional Modena Balsamic Vinegar (A.B.T.M.) is left to age, are located in the loft of Palazzo Scacchetti, the municipal building in the heart of Carpi’s old-city centre.
These contain 2 mother barrels and 3 batteries of prized casks, named after major figures of the city’s past:

Maria Beatrice (D’Este – wife of James II, King of England)
Caterina (Pico – mother of Alberto Pio and sister of Pico della Mirandola)
Adelaide (Menotti – sister of Ciro and shavings “entrepreneur”).

The batteries consist of six to eight casks made of different types of wood (oak, chestnut, beech, false acacia and cherry), and contain balsamic vinegars of different ages: thirty-years-old the first, under ten-years-old the second, just two-years-old the third. The first cask has already been tapped for the past three years. The Traditional Balsamic Vinegar produced at Palazzo Scacchetti is at the disposal of the Administration for institutional purposes. In charge of the development and running of the communal Vinegar rooms is the Comunità Carpigiana della Consorteria dell’Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena (Carpi Community of the Corsortium of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena), which ensures absolute respect for tradition.


VISIT TO THE COMMUNAL VINEGAR ROOMS

During Carpi Balsamica 2009, the communal Vinegar rooms, located on the top floor of Palazzo Scacchetti (Council Building) - C.so A. Pio, 91 – will be open:

Saturday 16 and 23 May
Sunday 17 and 24 May

from 10 am to 1 pm
and from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm

The communal Vinegar rooms of Carpi can be visited on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 10 am to 1 pm
Visits are arranged by the Comunità Carpigiana della Consorteria dell’Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena.
Other openings are scheduled by appointment and during local events.

The writers Sandro Toni, Loriano Macchiavelli and Valerio Massimo Manfredi (?) will accompany us among the pages of “IL GUSTO DEL DELITTO/The taste of crime”, (2008, Leonardo publishing) with reading of pages chosen from their tales by Ferdinando Napolitano.
A special sales point will be set up by Libreria Mondadori Carpi.

GALA EVENING
AT THE COURT OF HIS MAJESTY TRADITIONAL BALSAMIC VINEGAR OF MODENA

Organised by the Carpi City Council, the Consorteria dell’ABTM of Spilamberto and the Consorzio di Tutela dell’ABTM (Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Protection Consortium).
An evening with guests of honour and surprising tributes to traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena. Flavours and fragrances blend harmonically with musical interludes and balsamic pages interpreted by the actor Ferdinando Napolitano.
During the course of the evening, conducted by the journalist Annarosa Ansaloni, the following has been scheduled: a close encounter with Luca Gozzoli, Gran Maestro of the Consorteria dell’ABTM, the official presentation of the series of artistic tiles “Visit to the vinegar rooms”, by the artist Carmen Monotti di Deruta, according to a project by Leonardo Giacobazzi, an interview-tribute to the cask-maker Francesco Renzi, the official awarding by Enrico Corsini, President of the Consorzio di tutela dell’ABTM of actor-gourmet Vito.
Also speaking will be Giuseppe Palmieri, the best sommelier of 2007 and 2008, who will narrate ‘The wines to be enjoyed with Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena”, the master tasters of the Comunità carpigiana della Consorteria with demos of the tasting rite and other surprises.
At the start of the evening Bar Dorando and Caffè Martini will offer their cocktails: Molto Strano and Balsartini

3rd stage – 1 pm
Lunch in a farm tourism complex to enjoy traditional Emilia dishes
